Nearly two-thirds of the 3,015 produce samples tested by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2017 contained pesticide residues - a surprising finding in the face of soaring consumer demand for food without agricultural chemicals.

A small amount of sweet corn, papaya and summer squash sold in the United States is produced from genetically modified seeds. Buy organic varieties of these crops if you want to avoid genetically modified produce.
